Specialized Dementia Care for Elderly Adults in Newton, MA and Greater Boston
A dementia diagnosis brings a lot of uncertainty. How much care is needed now? What will we need in the future? How can we keep Mom or Dad safe and engaged at home?
HouseWorks recognizes that every person living with dementia or memory loss has a unique situation. This is why our CareTeam will customize a personalized plan for you and you alone. We focus first on safety and structure, but we also keep our clients engaged in activities they love because research shows older adults who remain active have less anxiety and depression.
HouseWorks provides advanced Certified Dementia Practitioner Training to our CareTeams. We use an evidence-based virtual dementia tour that simulates dementia symptoms and allows our CareTeams to “walk a mile” in the shoes of our clients. It’s our better understanding and training that leads to better care.

Answers to your Dementia Care questions
How much does personal care cost? Does insurance cover any part of it?
We charge by the hour or a flat rate for live-in care. Our services are not covered by Medicare/Medicaid. You may be eligible for reimbursement from Long-Term Care Insurance. We do not accept payment directly from Long-Term Care Insurance but are more than happy to submit any information that they need to reimburse you directly.
How do you train Caregivers to work with clients with dementia?
We match our clients with dementia to Caregivers who have taken Certified Dementia Practitioner Training, a 16-hour training program. Caregivers who work with clients with dementia also take virtual training, which simulates what it’s like to live with memory loss.
How do you get to know what my loved one was like before they had dementia?
We use journalists to capture client stories to help us understand what the client was like before they had dementia; this serves both to memorialize their life and help us customize activities for our client to enjoy.
How do you utilize technology?
We utilize tablet technology to track client health so we can improve day-to-day safety and experience. We also use tablets to offer brain fitness games to our clients to help improve memory.
How do you monitor the progression of symptoms? My brother says my mom is fine but I see symptoms progressing? How do I show she's getting worse?
Our tablet technology allows us to track client health and day-to-day progress. This allows us to catch even the slightest changes in health status so we can intervene sooner. Families have access to this information through the HouseWorks Family Portal, text, email or phone calls.
