Understanding the Cost of Home Care and How to Pay for it

Cost of Home Care

What does Home Care Cost? This is a common question that is probably on your mind as you look for home care near you.  When you contemplate in-home care options, you’ll undoubtedly consider cost as one of the factors if you are paying out of pocket.  When compared to the sky-high costs of nursing homes or assisted living (especially in states like Massachusetts), the price of home care can seem like a bargain. However, we urge you to not focus on price as the most critical criterion.

A home caregiver is, after all, a stranger being allowed into your private living space or the home of a loved one. Seniors in need of home care services are often in highly vulnerable situations. It would not be wise to allow an unqualified, poorly trained, or dangerous person into the home.  Would it?

We think you will agree that when choosing a home caregiver for yourself or a loved one – high quality is significantly more important than a low price. At HouseWorks, we insist on delivering the best in-home care for seniors, and we won’t skimp on quality of care (even if we lose on price). For these reasons, the cost of home care services from HouseWorks may be somewhat higher than other home care providers.

HouseWorks Caregivers give families peace of mind. We screen Caregivers and carefully match them with clients. Our Caregivers have, on average, 5 to 10 years of experience — well above industry standard — and we support them by providing continuing education.

Our CareTeams are actively involved in the day-to-day direction of client care. They anticipate caregiving needs and schedules, help to coordinate clinical care and support families through any challenges their loved one faces. Families that choose HouseWorks have 24/7 access to someone on their CareTeam.

Unlike if you were to hire on your own, HouseWorks pays Caregivers’ wages and employment taxes, carries workers compensation insurance, and provides case management, supervision, and 24-hour backup. While the hourly rates charged are typically higher than placement agency rates, the total cost to the consumer is often comparable.

HouseWorks is also licensed, bonded and insured.

Long-Term Care Insurance
In addition to paying on your own, another option is long-term care insurance, or LTCi, a common form of insurance that can cover many of the costs associated in home care for seniors. When considering senior care options, it’s important to understand the benefits you or your loved one are entitled to through your LTCi carrier. As an added convenience, HouseWorks can manage long-term care insurance claims for you.
