Aging • Innovation HouseWorks to Participate in “Revolutionizing Aging” Discussion

Where does technology fit into the aging process? How does technology help us deliver care of the highest quality that keeps our clients safe and comfortable at home?

These are questions we think about quite a bit, and for good reason. At HouseWorks, we believe technology has the power to enhance our service delivery, so we’re always think ahead to new, creative ways we can help redefine the aging experience for our clients.

And we’re in good company. On Friday, October 25, we will share ideas about aging with like-minded organizations at “Aging 2.0 Revolutionize” conference sponsored by The Boston Chapter of Aging 2.0. HouseWorks is a key sponsor.

We are particularly looking forward to the keynote address from Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker on “ReiMAgine Aging: Planning Together to Create an Age Friendly Future.”

If we’re looking to collectively create an age friendly future, technology must have a role. With technology, our Caregivers can become the eyes and ears at home when family can’t be there.

We have been working to integrate technology into our services and our trainings. Our Caregivers use tablet-based software to communicate what’s happening in the home to our clients’ families and our CareTeams assigned to that client. Having a long-view picture of our clients’ health helps us to anticipate changes in health status and refer them for treatment before an illness gets out of hand.

We also offer virtual dementia training that simulates dementia symptoms, immersing our Caregivers into an environment that opens a window into the lives of patients who have this devastating condition. A better understanding can only lead to better care. Last week, WBZ News Radio aired a news story about this innovative new training program.

With our tablets and virtual dementia training, technology is empowering HouseWorks’ Caregivers to become advocates for what their clients need in their homes so that they are safe, engaged and comfortable.

We look forward to sharing more about our work and hearing from our peers on how they use technology and creative approaches to revolutionize the aging process.
